Australia has something exceptional about it. Not only is it the sixth largest country on the planet, but it offers diverse areas to explore that other countries don't have. As this is such a vast country, planning a camping trip here certainly isn't the easiest task.

There's a huge range of campgrounds to choose from in Australia. These camping spots are suited to every budget and preference. The key lies in knowing the style that suits you when deciding where to pitch for the night.

In this post, you'll discover the most important facts about camping in Australia, as well as two campgrounds that are a must-visit for all the campers out there!

Is Australia Good for Camping?

Australia is one of those countries that seems to be perfectly suited for camping. This large part of Oceania is famously known as a camper's paradise for significant reasons.

Why is that, you ask?

Well, it isn't only the consistently impressive weather that makes it what it is, but the remarkable landscapes that are available at your fingertips. You can camp at national parks such as Kakadu in the Northern Territory, which are nothing short of breathtaking!

Not only are the camping locations beautiful, but a large portion of these campgrounds are also cost-effective and have perfect weather all year round.

These are just a few of the reasons why Australia is among the top countries in the world for camping trips.

What Should You Pack?

It's no secret that Australia is a hot country. The temperatures during the summer months can top 35 degrees Celsius. Of course, this also depends on where you plan on visiting. For example, camping in South Australia is known to be cold in the winter months.

For this reason, you'll need to pack warmer clothing if you plan on visiting the cooler areas, especially if you plan on camping in the mountains.

If you're traveling to the warmer parts of Australia, you'll need to pack light clothing such as t-shirts and shorts. You might also want some long-sleeve options that can give you some protection from the harsh sun.

Besides clothing, there are also other additional items that I would recommend packing for your trip. Here is a complete list of everything you should take on your Australia camping trip:

  • T-Shirts and shorts
  • Sunscreen
  • Insect repellent
  • First aid kit
  • Rain jacket
  • Hat, gloves, and scarf
  • Thermal pants
  • Toiletries
  • Cooking gear
  • Camping chairs
  • Sleeping bag
  • Tent
  • Thermal socks
  • Towel

Where Should You Go Camping in Australia?

Australia is a giant country, and there's virtually every type of camping spot you could ask for. You can choose from beaches, forests, mountains, rainforests, deserts, and rivers. With all these stunning scenes in mind, it really depends on the type of camping experience you desire.

Camping in Australia is pretty cost-effective. The difference in price between pitching up for the night compared to staying in a hotel is monumental. This gives you a bit more breathing room when choosing a camping spot that's right for your budget.
