Goboony Review [2024]: Europe's go-to RV rental company?
Goboony is an interesting option if you're looking to rent an RV for your next trip, but how does it compare to the others out there? In my comprehensive review, I'll go into full detail so you can figure out whether it's the right choice for you.

Planning a road trip can often be challenging, especially if you're journeying by car with limited space. For this reason, many people choose to rent an RV before they get on the road.

RVs offer beds, a kitchen, and seating areas that can be highly comfortable, depending on your chosen type. If you ask me, it sounds like a fantastic way to travel on the road!

But there are lots of things to consider before selecting the right RV rental company to use. Although everything might seem excellent on the surface, digging in deep is necessary to ensure all boxes are ticked.

One such rental service is Goboony. If you've heard about this company, then stay tuned. Without further ado, here's my Goboony review and how it compares to other RV rental companies such as Outdoorsy and Roadsurfer.

What Is Goboony?

Goboony is an RV rental marketplace where you can rent RVs from private owners around Europe and the UK. The company does this by allowing customers to adapt their search to specific options such as their desired country, start and end dates, and vehicle size.

By narrowing the search in this way, its customers can find exactly what they want, connecting them to a network of RV renters in and around multiple European countries.

Goboony has a fascinating and curious startup story that's worth mentioning. It was started by 2 friends from New Zealand in 2015. They met on the same road while on a road trip.

This coincidental meetup eventually led to them starting Goboony and it becoming the company it is today.

Goboony's name comes from the commonly used New Zealand phrase "boonies," an area that hasn't been explored yet. That's what Goboony emphasizes—traveling to untouched and mysterious places.

Goboony strongly focuses on sustainable travel, which meets the demands of the modern world. It also plans on increasing the number of electric vehicles it offers this year and beyond.

You can choose from up to 16 popular European countries, including the UK. Countries such as France, Spain, and Italy are top holiday destinations, allowing people to rent an RV easily.

How To Book an RV With Goboony

The booking process on Goboony starts by offering various custom options to choose from. This includes the ability to pick the following:

  • Your chosen European country (including the UK)
  • Start and end dates
  • Vehicle size with the number of sleeping places

Once you've selected the options you want and searched, the website will list available RVs from verified owners in your chosen country.

You can also select specific options such as air conditioning, heating, and even a TV if you want. After deciding on the RV that you want to book, it's time to send the owner a message and wait for booking confirmation.

Where Does Goboony Operate?

The Goboony headquarters is based in the city of Utrecht in the Netherlands. Though this is the case, it also operates in the UK and several other European countries, including Belgium and Italy.

Here's a list of countries where you can use Goboony:

  • Netherlands
  • United Kingdom
  • Belgium
  • France
  • Germany
  • Italy
  • Austria, and more

Reasons To Use Goboony for RV Rentals

Goboony has some beneficial aspects that are worth mentioning. These are the reason I think they're worth considering:

Peer-to-Peer Platform

It's safe to say that peer-to-peer platforms are indeed becoming the way of the future. We're seeing these types of platforms more and more, and I, for one, am totally for it!

Why are peer-to-peer platforms beneficial? Well, instead of Goboony organizing the deal between you and the renter, it's left entirely between the two of you.

This is better than a typical rental company where you must rely on them entirely to get what you need.

Instead, once the deal is done, it's done, and you don't have to worry about the payment being delayed or anything else. Some might say this ease of use puts Goboony ahead of others, such as McRent.

Sustainability

As you might be aware, the world isn't environmentally in the best position, and sustainability has become a top priority among popular companies.

Goboony has met this growing demand to be environmentally conscious, and sustainability is one of its main aims presently and in the future. Although many rental companies have similar interests, it can't be ignored as a positive factor on their list.

Electric Campervan Hire

Goboony is one of the first platforms to welcome electric motorhomes for hire. It has a small but thriving number of electric vehicles and plans to multiply that number to meet the 2030 demand head-on.

Electric campervans have a lot of advantages... It's cheaper than fuel, budget, and environmentally-friendly.

Drawbacks of  Goboony for RV Rentals

Goboony, like any other service, isn't perfect. Here are a few complaints our fellow adventurer have against the company.

High Deposit Amount

One of the biggest turnoffs regarding Goboony is its high deposit demands. If you book an RV less than 3 months in advance, you'll have to pay a 50% deposit. This means that if it has been fully booked and you need to cancel, you won't get your 50% deposit back.

Undoubtedly, people will need to cancel after booking with Goboony because of unavoidable situations. And 50% of the total deposit is a lot of money to pay!

So you must be sure that you're going to rent the RV before going on to book.

Poor Customer Support

Goboony only has an online support service where you can check out the FAQs or search out your inquiry. You can submit a request online if these don't work for you. That said, one of the most common complaints online of Goboony is that their customer service isn't particularly helpful.

A lot of people have mentioned that their customer service either ignored them or didn't do enough to resolve their issues. Imagine how dreadful it would be to be stuck in a situation but unable to reach customer support. Just think how many numerous frustrated customers it's led to.

Is Goboony Worth It?

I believe it is. Although Goboony certainly has its faults, it seems like it comes out above average compared to other options. Goboony reviews has its fair share of positive reports, making it more than worthy of an RV booking option.

Their choice of using a peer-to-peer platform to connect customers with sellers is a great idea—and it adds a more human element to the entire transaction.

The fact they're using a peer-to-peer platform automatically puts them above a large majority of other rental companies. This is because transactions are easier to settle, and there isn't a third-party entity dragging out their time frame.

Like any other service, everyone's experience will be different, so the ultimate way of knowing will be to try it out for yourself.

Our Rating: 4.1/5

Pros:

  • Peer-to-peer platform
  • Sustainable
  • Electric hire option

Cons:

  • High deposit amount
  • Poor support
