Passporter Review [2024]: Promising Trip Planner, or meh?

We've previously reviewed similar platforms for tailored travel, like VIP Traveler and MakeMyTrip. Still, today, we'll review and let you know everything we found on the Passporter app.

Platforms like Passporter can easily help you create an exciting vacation, regardless of your preferred location. But do they live up to the hype?

Passporter is a free trip planner and personal travel guide that helps you inspire, plan, and share your trips with your community. With the app, you'll be able to discover new things to do with their travel recommendations and easily organize your travel itineraries with friends and family. 

How to sign up on Passporter?

If you're looking to sign up for Passporter, you'll have the option to sign up with their web or mobile version. You can download the mobile app on both the App and Play store.

Aside from downloading the app, here's a step-by-step process to sign up for Passporter:

1. Go to Passporter's website and click the "Join Now" button.
2. Enter your name and email address, and create a password.
3. Once you've logged in, start by selecting a city you'd like to discover.
4. In the interface, you'll be able to start discovering and exploring the things you'd like to do!

What people are saying about Passporter

Since this is a relatively new app, you can expect the public opinion of the app to be minimal, besides a little feedback on both the app store and play store. I don't think there are enough reviews to form an opinion. A small number of reviews tend to be heavily biased and don't paint the complete picture of the app itself.

However, I'll dive into what I think about the app below based on my experiences using Passporter!

Benefits of Passporter

The benefits of Passporter are targeted towards a younger adult audience that would like to not stress over minor details when it comes to planning for travel. 

Whether you're going on a solo trip or a family vacation, it's great that the app helps you discover, organize, and better remember the cool and interesting things you'd like to do during your trip. 

Here's a few more major points on Passporter:

Saves Time

Planning a trip is notoriously time-consuming, especially when you need to plan for more than yourself. With Passporter, you can easily compare flight prices, find deals on hotels and vacation rentals, and research activities and attractions in one place. So, you can book your dream trip in record time!

Organized and streamlined

If you'd like to stay organized and on top of every aspect of your travel plans, Passporter is the app that'll help you get streamlined and organized with a few clicks. With Passporter, everything is conveniently stored in one place, and you'll be able to relax knowing that all your plans are right where you need them. 

Influencer-inspired trips

A big part of Passporter's signups is from sponsoring influencers to take those Instagrammable trips that you sometimes wish were part of. With Passporter, you'll be able to access templates of several influencers you might know!

This is cool since you'll be able to take influencer-inspired travel itineraries and make them your own.

Drawbacks of Passporter

While the Passporter app sounds good on paper, we found it particularly lacking in execution. Here are the drawbacks I noticed quite glaringly when using the app you should be aware of.

These are some drawbacks you can expect:

Overwhelming and un-intuitive

Passporter claims to be a great place to start organizing your trip. Still, the app can lack discovery-oriented features for many people looking for inspiration and discovery. What if I didn't know where I wanted to go? 

There are many features built-in to the app that give you features tailored for when you're already ready to book and go, not when you're still planning. Having those features on my face is, in my opinion, super overwhelming and not helpful for the travel planning experience.

Inaccurate quotes

I've frequently found myself switching back and forth between different pricing pages, from Passporter to external booking sites, just to see that the prices and specifications aren't up to date. While doing that, I've also experienced minor bugs that make me overwhelmed and even more stressed.

All hype, no glam

Based on what I've seen in the app pitch on Instagram and other social media accounts versus what I experienced on the app, there was a huge gap between my expectations and reality. 

The app tries to become an Instagrammable travel planner for younger travelers. I found the app to be like most travel booking sites, full of features I don't mainly find helpful trying to sell me on products I don't need to buy just yet.

Not to mention confusing interfaces that can be hard to find information.

External content

Most, if not all, content presented on Passporter is from external sources that are easily and readily available through a quick Google search. When you find blogs on Passporter you like, they'll just straight up take you to that particular website. This makes me wonder why I would plan my trip on Passporter when I can just do it on Google search + Google docs.

Is Passporter worth it?

Passporter claims to be a trip planner and personal travel guide that provides you with everything you need to plan your dream vacation. Based on my experiences and expectations from the app, I was disappointed. 

From Passporter's non-intuitive app interface to excessive booking features, I feel like the app is just a less resourceful version of TripAdvisor. Plus, from its super-hyped stories on Instagram, I was disappointed at the execution of the app's functionalities.

Better social travel planner apps can be used to plan your trips, so I would be hesitant to recommend the app. However, since the app is generally free, I feel you should try it if you don't feel convinced and see if you agree with what I discovered.
