2. Watch a movie at the Open-Air Cinema Kamari

If you need a break from the sun, sand, and whitewashed villages, then Santorini has something special in store for you.

The Open-Air Cinema Kamari hosts a handful of al-fresco-style events during the summer season. You can bask in the beauty of the evening as you dabble between a film, traditional theater performance, live concert, or even an art exhibition. There really is something to suit everyone's tastes.

For the full program, have a look at the Santorini Cinema website. Be sure to book in advance.

3. Eat at a traditional tavern in Amoudi Bay

At the very base of the plummeting clifftops, sitting right beneath bustling Oia, is Amoudi Bay. Glistening with turquoise-clear waters, Amoudi Bay straddles some hidden gems you won't find elsewhere.

To reach this little fishing village, descend 200 steps down the rugged cliff's edge. Amongst the postcard-worthy coves, Greek tavernas serve up authentic cuisine. Indulge in a fresh catch of the day, and replenish all your cravings.

If you're looking for something to get your heart racing, you could additionally consider cliff diving here too.

4. Catch a sunset in Oia

If you're looking for some romantic things to do in Santorini, then roaming around one of the island's most picture-perfect pin-points, Oia is the perfect activity.

Stroll around the northern tip of Santorini, and you'll find a steep, whitewashed cliff that drops down into blissfully blue waters. With blue-domed churches and plummeting caldera vistas, this is indisputably a site that boasts beauty.

Oia is perfect if you want to kick back in a local bar, enjoy a traditional meal, or listen to some live music as the sun departs for the day. Considering this is one of the island's most popular spots, make sure you book ahead to avoid missing out! You can reach Oia via the local bus service: KTEL.

Local's tip: The best spot in Oia to watch the sunset is from the Byzantine Castle (make sure you get there 1-2 hours earlier so you can claim your spot).

5. Swim at the Red Beach

Just a stone's throw away from the town of Akrotiri lies one of the island's biggest natural gems. With vibrant red cliffs towering above the aquamarine seafront, Red Beach is a unique attraction that is sure to leave you in awe.

Expect a slice of adventure and thrill as you stroll down the rocky, somewhat-questionable trail towards the beach.

Otherwise, you can access Red Beach by boat from Kamari, Perissa, or Akrotiri ports. Check out these Santorini tours, which feature a trip to Red Beach and a variety of the best beaches on the island.

Pro tip: Bring comfortable shoes, and avoid thongs or open-toed shoes!

6. Hike from Fira to Oia

If you're after a quick escape from the hustle and bustle of the busier towns, then this hike is for you. Immerse yourself in the natural splendor abounding on the green-graced path from Fira to Oia. Bask in the magnitude of magnificent viewpoints and hidden gems you'll discover along the way.

The trail lines span 9km and hang at the edge of the caldera, taking just around 2 hours to complete.

It's best to take this hike early in the morning or late afternoon before the heat kicks in! Also, don't forget to pack sunscreen, a hat, snacks, and a water bottle.

7. Taste Santorini's best wines

Santorini is coined for its world-class wineries and vineyards dominating the landscape. So, it comes as no surprise that wine tours are one of the most popular things to do on this Greek island.

Set aside an afternoon to indulge in some of Santorini's renowned white wines and get lost in some of the world's oldest running vineyards. A typical wine tasting tour lasts between 3 to 5 hours and generally includes a handful of wineries.

Keep an eye out for the Estate Argyros, the Gavalas Traditional Winery, and the Boutari Vineyard. Two of the most authentic and most prominent brands of wine are Vinsanto and Nykteri.

8. Check out the Akrotiri Archaeological Site

Nestled in the quaint village of Akrotiri is an alluring array of ancient remains. If you're a history buff, you simply can't miss out!

One of Santorini's biggest attractions, the Akrotiri Archaeological Site is home to winding pathways, well-preserved ruins, creative pottery, and even multi-level buildings. In fact, this site is so intact that it's frequently compared to Italy's Pompeii.

9. Visit the island's capital, Firá

A vacation in Santorini would not be complete without a trip to its most iconic pin-point: Firá. This little area is framed by white buildings, narrow alleyways, gourmet eateries, blue-domed churches, chic boutiques, bustling hostels, raging nightclubs, and luxury hotels.

Peering 300m above the caldera, the views here are nothing short of mind-blowing!

Plus, on the off chance you get caught in unpleasant weather, Firá has plenty more things to do when it's raining.

The only downside is battling the crowds of tourists. You can ditch the hassle of navigating the big groups by arriving earlier in the morning. To get to Firá from Skala, simply walk up the steep steps or catch a cable car.
