What is Travelex?

Travelex is a US-based travel insurance company. With Midwestern values ingrained at the heart. Their mission is to provide top-notch travel insurance on a global scale.

Having been in the field for over 25 years, they have attractive offers and great reviews that back up their reputation as one of the leading travel insurance providers.

What does Travelex insurance cover?

Travelex offers broad coverage for a variety of travelers depending on the type of plan you choose. You can claim coverage for trip cancellations, delays, adventure sports, lost baggage, and other travel-related incidents.

Travelex insurance additionally provides coverage for medical fees in case of an emergency. If you're someone who loves high-risk adventure activities, this is a great option for you.

What plans are on offer?

If you're wondering which Travelex plan to choose, look no further. Whether you're a beach-loving sun-seeker, a trekking enthusiast, or a wintertime ski fanatic, Travelex has a plan for everyone. Their plans also offer 24/7 travel assistance, so you can rest assured that you'll have support during your trip.

You can decide which plan is the best option for you depending on your trip type, destination, length, activities, and preferences. You can even customize or upgrade your plan to better suit your needs.

Travel Basic

The Travel Basic plan provides basic coverage at a more budget-friendly price, making it perfect for sightseers and those that like to keep their travels on the calmer end of the scale.

This plan offers primary coverage with no deductibles. It covers up to $10,000 for interruption or cancellation of your trip and up to $15,000 in emergency medical and dental expenses.

Travel Select

The Travel Select plan offers all the features of the Travel Basic plan but provides more comprehensive protection with higher medical coverage.

This plan offers primary coverage with no deductibles. It covers trip interruptions, cancellations, and delays. It also covers up to $50,000 in emergency medical and dental expenses, which is $35,000 more than the Travel Basic plan.

You can also customize your plan with five optional upgrades. These include additional medical coverage, adventure sports coverage, common carrier AD&D, car rental collision, and cancellation for any reason.

Travel America

The Travel America plan offers budget-conscious insurance for trips of up to 14 days around the United States. If you're planning a road trip with your friends, it includes car rental collision coverage and roadside assistance for up to 8 travelers.

This plan also reimburses trip inconveniences and, like the Travel Select plan, covers up to $50,000 in emergency medical and dental expenses.

How can you calculate your trip cost?

As travel insurance plans cover a percentage of your trip cost, keeping track of all your travel expenses is essential.

The total cost of your trip can be calculated by adding up all non-refundable expenses. These include hotel fees, train and flight tickets, tour guide costs, etc. It's also important to save all receipts of your travel purchases.

Does Travelex cover you if you cancel your trip?

What happens if you get fired from your job, or if there's an out-of-control hurricane sweeping over your tropical destination? Will you still be covered?

The answer is yes! Travelex can still provide travel insurance coverage if you face an unforeseen mishap before your trip. You can cancel a trip right up to the date and time of your departure and be compensated for it, as long as the reason for cancellation is covered in your policy documents.

These reasons could include:

  • Sickness or death
  • Serious injury
  • Involuntary work termination
  • Canceled flights due to weather
  • Terrorist incidents

Is Travelex the best option on the market?

Many customers rave about budget-friendly prices and relatively hassle-free claim process. Travelex has fairly competitive rates for budget-conscious travelers compared to other travel insurance providers.

One major complaint about Travelex is that there is a $500 maximum on lost or damaged baggage, so there may be better options than this if you're traveling with many valuable items. Adventure-lovers looking for high-coverage plans have also commented on the hefty prices for extras.

If you're planning an adventure-filled vacation, you can consider alternatives that provide more medical coverage, such as Seven Corners or World Nomads. Frequent globetrotters can also check out InsureMyTrip, a service that compares different providers so you can find the best option for your travel needs.

Is Travelex worth It?

If you're a regular traveler and want to combat unwanted stress, purchasing travel insurance is an absolute must. Canceled flights, lost baggage, weather conditions, and a collection of calamities can occur, and preparing for such scenarios could save you the hassle and a lot of money!

Travelex offers excellent plans for budget travelers looking for basic coverage, so if you're a backpacker, this could be the best option for you. With their 24/7 support, you'll always be able to speak to someone in whatever situation you find yourself in. And that can make a massive difference when you're feeling on edge.
