Exodus offers a range of adventure options, from last-minute deals and cultural adventures to the opportunity of contributing to the eBioAtlas. You can choose to go on a trekking adventure or a cycling tour. They offer wildlife encounters and even Arctic and Antarctic expeditions—it seems like Exodus Travels covers it all.

Whether you want to hike through a tropical rainforest in Jamaica or come face-to-face with wildlife in the Galapagos Islands, adventure looks like it’s ingrained in the heart of this travel company. So, let’s find out whether booking your next trip with Exodus Travels is as good as it seems.

What is Exodus Travels?

Exodus Travels focuses on exploring the beauty of planet earth through expeditions. The company emphasizes culture, environment, and adventure as a way to explore countries. With small groups and traveler-led itineraries, the experiences seem flexible and tailor-made.

Activities take place across all kinds of terrain. From empty deserts and rugged mountain ranges to lush jungles and roaring coastlines. Whatever your adventure style, it looks like they’re up for it.

Exodus aims to travel consciously and respectfully. They focus on delving deep into local customs, culture, cuisine, and tradition. By providing travelers with an authentic experience, they hope to minimize their environmental impact and leave a small carbon footprint.

Who started Exodus Travels?

Founded by two adrenaline-loving friends back in the mid-’70s, Exodus Travels sprung out of an adventure in the Hindu Kush mountain range in the Himalayas. The company’s heart-warming story began when John Gillies and David Burlinson decided to head out in a truck to the Minaret of Jam deep in the heart of the Hindu Kush.

After reaching this relatively inaccessible and little-known attraction, they were inspired to share their experience. The two friends went on to build three more trucks to bring more people to rare spots like the Minaret of Jam. And just like that, the idea of an adventure travel company was sparked.

In the following years, Exodus Travels expanded globally, covering trips from Asia and South America to Africa and Europe. To this day, the company has kept growing and providing planet-focused expeditions to adventurous travelers.

What to expect with Exodus Travels?

If you like adventure travel but are not quite confident enough to organize your own trip, a tour with Exodus Travels could be just the thing for you. Exodus is also ideal for solo travelers. On most expeditions, about half of the group consists of individuals adventuring independently. So there’s an opportunity to make friends and find like-minded thrill seekers!

Small group expeditions

If you’re new to Exodus, you can expect small groups of anywhere between 12-16 people, depending on the type of trip you choose. Each adventure has an experienced local leader with the qualifications to put you at ease.

Self-guided adventure holidays

Exodus Travels also offers self-guided holidays, which include detailed maps, routes and notes, hotel bookings, and transfers. If you prefer to go at your own pace, this would be the best option for you.

Private group adventures

Last but not least, Exodus Travels also hosts private adventures. This is a perfect fit for small groups with a minimum of two travelers. If you’re looking for something that’s tailored to your loved ones, work colleagues, or family and friends, then a locally-crafted private tour could be ideal.

What are people saying about Exodus Travels?

People seem very positive when it comes to Exodus Travels, leaving upbeat reviews about their experienced and knowledgeable tour leaders. In 2015, 97% of travelers said they would recommend Exodus Travels to a friend!

Visitors seem very pleased with the amount of planning, research, and training involved and how each staff member is an absolute expert in their field. Travelers are impressed with the variety of options on offer and appreciate the freedom to choose a self-guided tour vs. a guided one.

Eco-conscious adventurers rave that this company is one of the very few to show that they’re committed to sustainable tourism.

The only major downsides seem to be the high price point, which can be difficult for budget travelers to afford. There are also limited group trips available in the year, so planning is tricky.
