At FlightDeck, we take pride in reviewing all things travel. To that end, I picked up a pair of Vessi Weekend Marble White sneakers currently advertised as the "Quintessential Travel Shoe."

But after trying them out, do I agree with this statement?

In my Vessi shoe review, I'll dig into various aspects of the shoe and, in the end, rate whether they're my fav travel shoe.

Don't skip out on this review—you may be surprised by what I discovered after wearing them for a few months. Find out whether these shoes are what you're looking for before spending your hard-earned money...

A Little Intro to the Vessi Weekend Shoe

The Weekend Shoe for men and women is one of the most popular shoe styles by the Vancouver breakout brand, Vessi

As the name suggests, Vessi made this shoe to be your weekend companion. No matter where you're exploring, whether it's your hometown or a stunning international destination, the Weekend shoe is supposedly the only shoe you'll want.

Based on the marketing, this shoe has many beneficial features for people who love to adventure. I'm talking about being 100% waterproof, lightweight with a comfortable insole, and machine washable.

And that's not all... If you're a sucker for the environment, you can feel good about wearing a pair of Vessis. After all, they're made from vegan materials.

So, the Vessi Weekend is touted as a great weekend adventure shoe, but does it live up to all of the advertising? And is it better when compared to other shoes in Vessi's lineup?

The company's come out with fan favorites like the Everyday Classic or the more recent Stormbursts—which my colleague tried out and then wrote a review about his Vessi experience as well!

Here's what you've been waiting for. I'm going to get into my personal experience with a pair of Vessi Marble Whites so that you know you're getting info from a review by someone who's actually tried the product...

How Vessi's Weekend Shoes Fit? Score: 3.9/5

So first off, I have big feet, particularly in width. I'm a men's size 11.5, so I was initially worried about these being comfortable.

Based on my fears, I got a size 12, just in case. Thankfully, I made the right choice! The 12s were definitely the right size—if I'd gotten size 11.5, I think they would fit pretty snugly. My recommendation here is to go up a size if you're unsure!

I do want to mention one issue I have though... my left foot still hurts a bit in them. My left foot may be a little wider than my right, though. But I'm confident this is just me getting used to a new pair of shoes.

That said, the soles are quite soft, and the backs aren't super hard. Better-suited shoes might be out there if you need a more supportive shoe.

I had flat feet as a kid and had to wear arches in my shoes to fix them, but I still have some nightmares of softer shoes with less support hurting my feet.

Thankfully, I have yet to experience that here, but if you wear insoles, you might want something sturdier. These are almost like slippers—so light and soft, making them very comfortable. So that's the trade-off.

Here's what the backs and soles look like so you see what I mean:

Very slipper-esque.

How Do the Shoes Hold Up Color-Wise? Score: 4.1/5

I got the white color option. I know, bold, right? I wanted to see how much they would scuff up, and I'd never had white shoes before because I was afraid they'd get dirty.

Thankfully, Vessi shoes are machine washable and waterproof, so I thought I'd finally try white sneakers.

Here they are the first day outside wearing them, showing some marks, but still nicely white.

And here they are again a couple of weeks later after a few more uses—note that I haven't washed them yet:

Honestly, they're still looking pretty good. I thought white shoes would be instantly dirty, so the Vessis proved me wrong!

I also ran them under water, just to see what happened:

Yup. Super waterproof, as Vessi claims. It was quite cool to see.

The con: the marks didn't come off from just running it underwater, so I expect I'll need to scrub them for that, or try machine washing them.

Do People Think They Look Cool? Score: 5.0/5

I certainly felt cool wearing them. They're very cool-guy-looking shoes, especially white. A girl actually complimented me on them out of the blue, so that's got to mean something, right?

The reviews on the website are also quite good, as this is one of their top shoes this year. I understand why after pairing them with my outfits for about 6 months.

One thing I really loved is that they're not super flashy, which means it's easier to wear them out in many different situations and with many different outfits.

If you're into fashionable shoes that work with a closet full of variety, I recommend picking up a pair of these.

Would I Bring Them Traveling? Score: 3.2/5

That's the million-dollar question, isn't it? After all, we are a travel company...

The long and short of it is, maybe—it depends on what kind of trip I'm taking.

Should I embark on a backpacking adventure across Europe, I would lean toward a shoe that offers more support and versatility. The Vessi Weekends seem too soft to serve as the best hiking shoes. In fact, I suspect my feet would be in agony by the end, mirroring the discomfort I would be in if I were to wear slippers.

But would I consider them for a short weekend getaway to a city like New York or LA? Absolutely, why not!

These shoes have a stylish look, and I wouldn't worry too much about them getting dirty, unlike if I was planning to take them on an adventurous or outdoor-focused trip like to Thailand or Colombia.

That being said, if I was planning to take multiple pairs of shoes for a more extended trip, I would pack these as versatile and reliable shoes to explore cities and do everyday things while away.

Are Vessi Weekend Shoes Worth It?

In summary, a pretty damn good shoe.

I'd say it's worth the price and lives up to the advertised waterproof capabilities. They also fit well, even if your feet will take some getting used to them.

Remember, be sure to size up if you have wide feet!

Since I got the white pair, I also want to point out that the color seems to hold up well. And even though it does smudge, it looks like it wouldn't be too hard to clean.

Keeping them looking new without wrecking them in the washing machine is also a great perk!

And lastly, they work pretty well for weekend trips. I wouldn't take them on more adventurous trips, though. I'd save your more hardy runners or hiking shoes for those types of trips since the Vessis feel more like stylish slippers. Like Lululemon for your feet!

My Rating: 4.0/5

Pros:

  • Reliably waterproof
  • Stay relatively clean
  • Machine washable
  • Comfortable
  • Made from vegan materials
  • Stylish

Cons:

  • Lack support
  • Not great for strenuous activities
  • The sizing is a bit off—go up

Keep Your Feet Dry During Your Next Weekend Trip!

Now you've heard about the things I noticed while trying out a pair of Vessi Weekends for about 6 months. For the most part, the experience was enjoyable. There are just certain situations I would wear them and others I would not!

Either way, I recommend buying them—they'll make an excellent addition to your Pilot app packing list for when you're planning your next quick weekend getaway. Or if you're planning to tourist around your own city.
