Where Is the Main Part of Mykonos?

Mykonos consists of seven main areas: Chora, Kalafatis, Ornos, Agios Ioannis, Platis Gialos, Ano Mera, Tourlos, and Mykonos Beaches.

The island's capital and major tourist attraction along the west coast is Chora, also known as Mykonos Town. It's filled with bars, cafes, restaurants, tourist attractions, and hotels, which is why it comes as no surprise this area is crowded.

Where Is the Strip in Mykonos?

If you're looking for a strip for nightlife action, you'll commonly find it in beach bars and clubs at Little Venice. It is a place filled with gorgeous houses and picturesque streets to appreciate during the day.

At night, Little Venice turns into a party place for non-stop fun and adrenaline. Most people go to famous party places such as Paradise, Super Paradise, and Paraga.

So if you're thinking about where to stay in Mykonos for partying, Little Venice is the best option.

Where Is the Best Place to Stay in Mykonos?

4. Platis Gialos

Just an 18-minute drive from Mykonos Old Port, Platis Gialos is a great option for pristine beaches and golden sands.

Need to relax? Platis Gialos has several taverns and seaside bars, and restaurants with a laid-back and quiet vibe. For easy travel, catch the taxi boats from the harbor to go to nearby beaches. Head to Agia Anna for a quieter atmosphere or Paranga beach for more lively entertainment.

Plastis Gialos is one of the most family-friendly areas in Mykonos, where you can stay in summer house rentals. If you prefer to stay within Platis Gialos, the cheapest Airbnb is the Cycladic home hosted by Vagelis for $60 a night. However, you can always choose to stay in farther locations, such as Villa Vasilis, for $50 a night.

3. Ornos Beach

If you need a place to unwind, head over to Ornos Beach, where you can try beach water activities. You can stay at Villa Vasilis Ornos for as low as $50 a night.

Beach lovers can easily reach the seaside and look for the perfect sunbathing spot to bask in the sun.

Ornos Beach is not only a place for beach bums but also for foodies, sports enthusiasts, families, honeymooners, and couples. It's one of the best neighborhoods to spend the day and go sightseeing.

This area of Mykonos is also home to several top restaurants and bars as well, such as Pasaji Restaurant and Buddha Bar Beach Mykonos.

2. Old Port of Mykonos

The Old Port of Mykonos is also known as Downtown Mykonos, popular for its whitewashed buildings and magnificent views. It is located near Little Venice, making it a central hub for shopping, dining, and drinking.

Thanks to its port, you can expect to find a fish market and several seafood restaurants to enjoy at the Old Port of Mykonos.

Art enthusiasts, history lovers, foodies, families, and first-time travelers should consider staying in the Old Port. Mycocoon Hostel Mykonos is one of the most affordable hostels to stay in for $32 a night.

Staying the Old Port area, you'll be near top sightseeing attractions, including the Archaeological Museum of Mykonos, Old Port of Mykonos City Building, and Folklore Museum. What are you waiting for?!

How Many Days Should You Stay in Mykonos?

It would be a dream to stay for as long as you want in this island paradise. Realistically, the ideal length of stay is three to five days to fully explore what Mykonos has to offer tourists.

Spending around 5 days on Mykonos is more than enough to discover its hidden gems, taste a variety of dishes, and experience unique activities. If you're trying to plan your entire Greece vacation, take some time to explore some of the best places to visit in Greece, including Athens or Santorini!

Is It Better to Stay in Mykonos or Santorini?

Deciding on which is the most ideal vacation destination depends on your preferences. You should take places of interest, budget, and types of activities into consideration!

If you're looking for golden sunsets and pristine beaches without breaking the bank, Mykonos is the most ideal choice.

Santorini is known to be more expensive compared to Mykonos. However, it's known to be one of the most romantic getaway spots for honeymooners and couples in general.
