What is Lollapalooza?

So you've heard the name before but are wondering what it is. Lollapalooza is a four-day music festival that takes place in Chicago, Illinois, in the United States every year. 

Lollapalooza is one of the largest festivals in the world, and it has been around for more than four decades. Being around for so long, it's had a lot of time to grow and become the insanely fun festival it is today. 

Another popular music festival in the United States is the Governors Ball, which is in New York City every summer. If you love one of these festivals, you should check out the other!

Surprisingly, not only is the music at Lolla popular, but so is the food. At the festival, you can try some of the best food in Chicago, which is why people love visiting the city. And what's even better is that you can see the beautiful Chicago skyline from the festival - Lollapalooza truly has it all!

Where is Lollapalooza?

Lollapalooza takes place in Chicago's Grant Park. Grant Park is located in downtown Chicago near Lake Michigan, Soldier Field, and Chicago's Museum Campus. 

When is Lollapalooza?

Lollapalooza takes place every summer for four days, from a Thursday to Sunday. The festival is in late July or early August, depending on the year. 

This year, Lollapalooza 2023 is from Thursday, August 3rd to Sunday, August 6th, and is the perfect way to end the summer months.

How many people attend Lollapalooza?

Locals and people from all over the world attend Lollapalooza each year, and not in small amounts by any means. 

Around 400,000 people attend Lollapalooza every year over the four-day event, so it is a fairly large festival. 

If you're going with friends, make sure you have charged phones, a battery pack, or a designated meeting point in case you lose each other. With 400,000 attendees, it'll be difficult to find each other without one of these things!

How to get to Lollapalooza

Getting to Lollapalooza is easy, especially if you stay in the Loop (one of Chicago's neighborhoods). Grant Park, where the festival takes place, is on the east side of the Loop near the lake, so you can just walk over. 

If you choose public transportation, there are multiple buses, L, and train stops near the park. If you take the L, Chicago's subway, you can get within walking distance of Grant Park from the Brown, Orange, Pink, Green, Blue, and Red Lines. 

Chicago's public transit system is easy to understand and navigate, so you won't have any issues getting to Lolla for only a few dollars!

Ride-share services are also widely available in Chicago, so you can call an Uber or Lyft if you want to get to the fun as fast as possible!

Lollapalooza Schedule

Lollapalooza is a four-day festival, and the performances are pretty evenly split over the four days. 

What time does Lollapalooza start?

There are nine stages where the artists perform, and there are different artists on each stage between 12 PM and 10 PM over the four days. 

The complete Lollapalooza schedule for 2023 hasn't been released yet but you'll be able to find it on the Lollapalooza website, along with the stage and performance times, when it is! 

Lollapalooza Lineup

Over 170 artists perform at Lollapalooza over the four-day festival, so the schedule is jam-packed with music. But, the more popular artists play later in the day, and most people go to see them. However, the headliners performing on the same day usually overlap show times, so you might only be able to see one or two of them or just bounce around during performances.

Although the 2023 Lolla lineup has not yet been released, here are the 2022 Lollapalooza headliners, with the days they are performing so you can have an idea of what to expect:

Lollapalooza Tickets

Lollapalooza sells an array of tickets, including 1-day, 2-day, 3-day, and 4-day tickets. The options are great if you only want to attend certain days of the festival or want to go all-in for the whole festival. 

Buying tickets to the event has not yet formally been announced but 4-day and 1-day tickets will be available in Spring 2023! You can sign up for email or text alerts on the Lollapalooza website if you want to be the first to know more about ticket updates and information!

How much are Lollapalooza tickets?

We're still waiting for the prices for 2023 Lollapalooza to be disclosed, but we have an idea of the approximate ticket price based off of 2022 Lollapalooza.

The most common Lollapalooza tickets have been the four-day passes, which started at $350 for a general admission ticket for the festival. There were also 4-day GA+ tickets for $650, VIP tickets for $1500, and Platinum tickets for $4200. 

These more expensive Lollapalooza tickets have benefits like VIP areas, fast entry, and more. But, if you just want to enjoy the music, the general admission tickets will work for you!

But how much is a single day at Lollapalooza?

The last festival, you could buy a standard 1-day pass for $125, which got you into the festival. Or, there were also 1-day GA+, VIP, and Platinum tickets for those who wanted to ball out at Lolla. The GA+ 1-day pass was $225, the 1-day VIP cost $500, and a Platinum 1-day Lollapalooza ticket was $2000. 

If you wanted to only attend two or three days of Lolla, you could get a 2-day or 3-day pass. These general admission passes cost $220 and $330, respectively, for 2022. 

Unfortunately, general admission was the only option for 2 and 3-day passes so if you wanted to attend 2 or 3 days of Lollapalooza with the benefits of the GA+, the VIP, or the Platinum tickets, you had to buy two or three one-day passes although this might change for 2023!

When does the Lollapalooza Lineup Come Out?

The Lollapalooza schedule is released in late March every year. And four-day tickets go on sale the same day as the lineup is released. One-day tickets usually go on sale about a month after the four-day passes.
