An all-in-one travel planner that claims to help you simplify the process of trip planning, whether it's a business trip or a family vacation. Does the platform deliver to its promises? Let's find out.
What’s your go-to source for travel inspiration? Are they your travelaholic friends and family? Do you have a set of websites bookmarked for good recommendations? Do you just browse the web, gathering ideas from here and there for your upcoming trip?
It’s a combination of the above, isn’t it?
The internet is pretty amazing when it comes to helping you with travel plans. But, there’s a lot of content that’s just fluff. So, how do you filter and identify what’s authentic and reliable?
One of the best ways is to look out for platforms that allow travelers to post their own views and recommendations of places. Minube is one such travel app that also helps you plan trips.

What is Minube?
Founded in 2007 by Raúl Jiménez, Minube is a social travel app that brings you recommendations of what to do, what to eat, where to go, and where to stay in each country/city. You can use these ideas as inspiration when building your travel itinerary.
These recommendations are reviewed and rated by fellow travelers who have experienced them first-hand. So, if you want to find the best macaron shops in Paris, the best hotels in London, or the best geothermal pools in Iceland, Minube has got you covered.
Alternatively, Minube is also a place where you can post about your own travel experiences so others can benefit from your reviews! It is available both as a web and mobile version. Minube app is available for both iOS and Android devices.
How does Minube work?
Users have to create an account to use Minube, but even non-members can browse for inspiration. Enter the country or city that you intend to visit in the search bar, and you will get a host of recommendations. Note that the choice depends on the popularity of the destination. You can save the ones you like and view them as a guide later on.
If you don’t have a particular destination in mind and can do with some random travel inspiration, click on the ‘lightbulb icon.’ Once you enter the distance, intended duration, type of the trip, continent, or color (interestingly so), Minube will present a list of choices. It’s great for brainstorming.
You can also click ‘publish’ and post your own travel experiences. It could be any attraction, eatery, or accommodation choice in a destination you have visited. You can post pictures and videos, rate the place, and add a review.
How can you book hotels via Minube?
Another significant feature of Minube is that you can search for accommodation (hotels) very easily and place the booking. The commission received from such bookings is one of the revenue-generating means of Minube.
You have to insert the name of the destination, check-in and check-out date, and the number of guests. Once you click search, Minube will show you a list of options gathered from various booking sites such as Booking.com, Agoda, Book with Hotel, etc. You can compare the prices, amenities, and other details, and click “view deal” if interested. Minube will redirect you to the booking site.
However, if you are looking for more types of accommodation and more choices in general, we recommend you use Holidu. You can read our Holidu review here to learn more about it. If you are a budgeted backpacker, a hostel is the ideal choice.
Advantages of Minube
- Lots of content
Minube is undeniably a great source of travel inspiration that’s ripe with content. You find generic travel ideas like best places to eat as well as more specific listicles like best burgher joints in an area. There’s plenty of content for most of the destinations around the world. However, it can certainly do with more!
- Reliable recommendations
As the reviews of attractions, restaurants, and accommodation choices come from travelers, who presumably, have been to those places before, we can consider them more reliable than generic or anonymous content. Reading multiple reviews can also help you gain a well-rounded idea about each place.
- User-friendly design
Both the app and website are easy to navigate and have an attractive UI. It makes browsing travel content and posting content a quick and easy task. It could be one of the reasons why many users rely on Minube, although it doesn’t have an extensive trip-planning feature.
Disadvantages of Minube
One of the things that Minube can improve on is the usability of its filters. When testing the app’s “Inspiration” feature, recommendations were provided after selecting just one filter. It was quite disappointing. The ability to select multiple filters and the availability of more filters to narrow the options further would be very beneficial.
- Not a great trip planner
We wouldn’t recommend using Minube for trip planning per se as its features in this regard are pretty limited. Yes, you can save attractions, hotels, and restaurants that you like and compile them into a guide. But, it doesn’t offer detailed features to help you plan a trip day-by-day.
Is Minube worth it?
Minube is a good platform for inspiration as it’s loaded with great travel ideas. You can gain a good understanding of the attraction or place you hope to visit by reading other travelers’ reviews. We think it’s a nice-to-have app. However, as a trip planner, Minube’s role is almost non-existent, especially when considering the features offered by the best travel planner apps in the market today. In this regard, we recommend you look for a better alternative.
